Daniel Isaac Axelrod, a paleobotany educator, received his M.S. degree in 1936 and his Ph. D. in 1938 from the University of California. He began his professional career as a technician at the California Forest and Range Experiment Station in 1934. Following his positions at the United States National Museum and the Carnegie Institution of Washington, he became a professor of geology at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1946-1968.
